About the President
Dr. Othello O.O. Scott, Sr. — President of Carver Christian University
In the heart of Paynesville, Liberia, a quiet revolution in Christian higher education is taking place — led by none other than Dr. Othello O.O. Scott, Sr., a passionate educator, servant-leader, and transformational figure in academia. As the President of Carver Christian University (formerly Monrovia Bible College), Dr. Scott has not only upheld the institution’s Christian foundation but has also elevated it to a new level of academic excellence, innovation, and social impact.
Born on March 7, 1969, to the late Colonel James O’Brien Scott, Sr., and Mrs. Esther Dowee Scott, Dr. Scott is the third of seven children blessed from that noble union. His educational journey, which began at Camp Schiefflin Elementary and later took him through institutions like Bible Way Mission School, Monrovia College, and the University of Liberia, reflects a lifelong commitment to academic growth. His pursuit of excellence took him beyond Liberia to the United States, where he earned a Master’s degree in Christian School Administration and a Ph.D. in Christian Education and Leadership. Currently, he is pursuing a second Ph.D. in Servant Leadership at Aidan University — a testament to his enduring thirst for knowledge and impact.
Since assuming the presidency at Carver Christian University, Dr. Scott has brought a visionary approach to leadership — one that blends faith, service, and academic rigor. Under his stewardship, the university has experienced tremendous growth, expanding from just over 100 students to more than 1,200 students today. This incredible leap in enrollment stands as a beacon of trust in the institution’s academic offerings and its spiritual atmosphere.
Dr. Scott’s leadership is marked not only by growth but by impactful reforms and partnerships. He led the successful accreditation of the university by the National Commission on Higher Education, as well as the accreditation of its nursing program by the Liberian Board for Nursing and Midwifery— a major stride toward producing qualified health professionals in the nation.
Moreover, Dr. Scott has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to inclusivity and staff development. Through an impressive staff scholarship initiative, Carver has offered educational opportunities to over six employees, allowing them to pursue higher education at Carver, the University of Liberia, and Mother Patern. Additionally, the university now offers a 50% tuition waiver for military and paramilitary personnel, as well as a 100% tuition and fees waiver for physically challenged individuals— reflecting his heart for equity, accessibility, and national service.
His work goes beyond academics. Dr. Scott’s involvement with several educational and faith-based boards — including Calvary Chapel Liberia, Lighthouse Mission Academy, and Calvary Life in the USA — shows the breadth of his influence in both local and international Christian communities.
A man of deep humility, Dr. Scott remains grounded in his love for teaching, music, soccer, and family. He is the devoted husband of Lusu T. Joe-Scott and father to three biological children and one adopted daughter — a family built on love, faith, and service.
Today, Carver Christian University stands tall not just as an institution of higher learning, but as a pillar of hope and transformation in Liberia. And at the center of this bright light is a visionary leader whose life and legacy continue to impact generations.
